Explore Austin

What makes Austin awesome? To sum it up: everything.

Have you heard? Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World. If that is music to your ears, just wait until you hear what else this exciting city has in store for you…

Austin is the capital of Texas, though it walks to the beat of its own drum. Quite literally. Austin is known for its live music scene and is home to over 250 music venues. But that's not all! It also has a plethora of national parks and rivers, providing a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of a lively city. Get in touch with nature with its impressive amount of outdoor adventures and natural beauty. The city’s endless sunshine matches its sunny disposition.

Pet-friendly Austin

There will never be a shortage of precious pets around, as Austin is ranked #4 among most pet-friendly cities. If you decide to go on one of the many beautiful riverside runs (the iconic Lady Bird Lake Trail and Barton Creek Greenbelt runs are close to major downtown hotels), be sure to add a few extra minutes to your planned route as you are bound to pass some sweet pups who are begging to be pet.

Once you have had enough puppy petting for one day (if that is even possible), check out some of the other local attractions that we have deemed a must-see!

Bustling Bar Scene

Make sure you are saving up energy because at night, Austin really comes alive. There is a new energy in the air, one that is distinctly different to the leisurely vibe of the day. No trip to Austin would be complete without checking out its notorious 6 Street bar strip. There is something for everyone on the strip, from rowdy clubs to low-key bars. Find out why 6 Street has been dubbed the Bourbon Street of Austin.

Food (Truck) for Thought

Austin's food truck scene is a strong contender for the top reason to visit the city. Forget about its inspiring nature and live music for days; the food is what really draws a crowd. Food-court trailer parks are all over Austin, and are home to 1,000+ mobile food vendors.

To prepare for your trip and scan the vendor list/menus ahead of time, we made sure to compile a list so you don't have to. Choose the location and cuisine best suited for you!

It's Bat-tastic

Austin doesn’t bat an eye at one or two bats, because it is home to Congress Avenue Bridge, which shelters the largest urban bat colony in North America. Up to 1.5 million Mexican free-tail bats fly out near dusk each day.

You can catch the bats by sitting on the lawn or standing on the bridge. To  make the most of the moment, you can take a sunset cruise from companies like Capital Cruises and the Lone Star Riverboat.

Views for Days - National Parks

Mount Bonnell is a great option for a hike as it is less than 15 minutes from downtown and right along the Colorado River.

We also highly recommend Austin's most-loved park, Zilker Metropolitan Park, which is is home to a variety of recreation opportunities, facilities and special events.

Pro-tip: Bike ride through Ziker, then go for a swim in Barton Springs Pool before an evening of bat-watching.
